Sean Welch was a corrections officer in Concord when he realized that wasn’t what he wanted to do with the rest of his life.
The Dracut resident was 17 when his first daughter was born (he has three girls now), and he knew he would need a career that paid for his and his family’s health insurance. A tractor-trailer driver for a few years, he decided a state job might be better and provide more stability.
"My thought process was always to get a good job with health insurance,” says Sean, 34.
His family was in the demolition business, and he learned young how to drive a tractor-trailer, so he continued in that profession until, at age 24, he opted for the state paycheck and benefits
"I worked at Concord prison for four years before I realized how bad I hated it,” he says.
He left his job in corrections to work first as a landscaper and then a handyman, until one day his uncle asked if he could wash the back of his house, which had grown green with algae.
"After that, I was driving home and I drove by house after house after house that was green, and I said to myself, ‘There may be a business in this,’” Sean says.
And so Sean’s Property Services was born. Four years later, the power-washing business is growing, and Sean recently took on an employee.
He has also expanded to do snow-plowing and, after taking a course recently in Philadelphia, he’s certified to set up Christmas light
displays for clients.
Sean says any time, except winter, is a good time to have the exterior of your house, patio, stairs or roof washed. And while there aren’t many who specialize in power-washing, there is some competition, and more and more people are getting into the game.
So why choose him?
"Quality of service,” he says without hesitation. “And customer service. I’ve got all my insurance. I do my research. I always want to know the best way to get things done.”
Toward that end, Sean attended the recent three-day Spray Wash Academy, in Nashville, Tennessee, a convention that included workshops on Metal & Specialty Roof Cleaning and Plant & Property Protection.
