Bob Bursey has cornered the market on sports equipment from his corner store in Village Square on Broadway Road.
Bob boasts that Sports Madness is “Dracut’s number-one sports store,” and it’s hard to argue. It also happens to be the only store in town that sells exclusively sports equipment.
Bursey knows sports. The former star Dracut High School pitcher (Class of ’83) opened Sports Madness on Lakeview Avenue, across from his old sto
mping grounds, in 2014, after selling the liquor store he and his wife owned in Westford. In 2017, he moved the store to Village Square, tucked in a corner between Scola’s Restaurant and the Law Offices of Colleen Garry and Mark Armstrong.
“I had a business plan for this since the ‘80s,” Bob says. “So when I was looking around for something to do, my wife said, ‘Why don’t you open that sports store?’”
He says the advantage of shopping at Sports Madness rather than big-box sports stores is that while they’re marking up their winter equipment, for instance, “I just want to get it out the door.” So, yes, you’ll find some competitive prices on skates, skis and snowboards.
