Maria Peres hopes to fulfill the dreams of a couple dozen future prom queens.
Maria, owner of Elegant Tailor and Design at 1777 Bridge Street, has about 25 prom dresses that she is offering for free -- first come, first served.
All you have to do is walk into Elegant Tailor -- which moved to Bridge Street last year from its previous home of six years at 1242 Lakeview Avenue – and choose a dress from the rack.
Maria said most of the dresses are brand-new and never worn, though a couple may have been worn once but are like new.
She knows how hard it is for some families to afford a prom dress, and she wants to make it easier for some of those families who may not be able to afford one.
In addition to Elegant Tailor, Maria also used to own a dress shop in New Hampshire, and when she closed it in 2020, she had lots of unused dresses. Last year, she gave out prom dresses at the Lakeview Avenue location, and this year she’s doing the same on Bridge Street, next to Dunkin’.
To get one of the dresses, you don’t have to do anything but come in the store and pick one out. No ID needed. No money needed. No appointment needed.
Elegant Tailor and Design is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, call 978-726-2159, email Mariabrazil1966@gmail.com, or visit www.mariabrazil19669.wixsite.com/elegant-tailor.
