Conservation

The Dracut Conservation Office and Dracut Conservation Commission consist of appointed employees and an appointed volunteer board that holds local jurisdiction over administering the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act (M.G.L 131, section 40) and the Dracut Wetland Bylaw. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts was one of the first states in the nation to recognize the importance of wetlands and to develop regulations that protect them.

If you have a project in mind, the Conservation Agent may be able to help you determine if your project will occur within a wetland or buffer zone, but you may need to get a professional wetlands expert.

The Conservation Agent can provide you with instructions and forms for submitting permitting forms to the Conservation Commission and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). You can contact the Conservation Agent, online or by calling the office at 978-770-2587.

Preserving Dracut's Conservation Land

The Conservation Agent, along with the Conservation Commission, is working to inform abutting landowners of suspected encroachments and invite them to discuss the concerns with the Commission.

The Conservation Agent has created a Wetlands and Encroachment Flyer (PDF) with general information about wetlands and conservation land protection in Dracut.
