June has a few days devoted to ice cream and all its glory. Which gives Dracut Economic Development a prime opportunity to let you know where to go in Dracut for your dairy fix.
June 7 is National Chocolate Ice Cream Day.
June 20 is National Ice Cream Soda Day and National Vanilla Milkshake Day.
Finally, June 30 is National Ice Cream Soda Day.
So where can you get some ice cream to celebrate these holidays? Glad you asked.
Farmer Da
ve’s, 437 Parker Road, is the newest addition to Dracut’s lick list. They opened their stand last summer, selling Shaw Farm ice cream (see below), but on the other side of town. Open every day, noon-8.
Frosty Boy, 1167 Lakeview Avenue, has been scooping and swirling hard and soft-serve ice cream for more than two decades. Frosty Boy is mixing it up this summer with new soft-serve flavors. This week, they’re offering strawberry. Open every day, noon-10.
Mike’s Ice Cream Shop, 466 Nashua Road, is Dracut’s oldest ice-cream stand that is still in operation, opening in 1988. Open every day, noon-8. Before or after enjoying a cone or sundae, check out Mike’s Card Shop for some collectible items.
Shaw Fa
rm, 204 New Boston Road, of course, has been an operating dairy farm since 1908, opening its ice-cream stand in 2000. Open noon-9 every day (and open year-round).
And while Black Sheep Craft Ice Cream doesn’t operate a stand, the Dracut business, operating out of 166 Merrimack Avenue, offers several different offbeat flavors every month. Recent flavors include Jimmy (coffee and bourbon ice cream with crushed espresso beans), Gimli (chocolate with chocolate stout ganache) and Horatio
(horchata ice cream). They produce new flavors every few weeks. Order online at www.hotplate.com/blacksheepcraft. Black Sheep is also showing up at local fairs and markets in the area this summer.
